Title:  Sr. Director, Head of New Product Planning

Summary:

As the Head of the New Products Planning (NPP) function for Sun, this is an opportunity to be a key stakeholder in driving and shaping the pipeline of the company. We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and cross-functionally oriented leader to drive commercial insights and strategies for our early- to mid-stage pipeline assets. This individual will serve as the commercial voice within cross-functional asset teams as well as lead external presentations at key investor and industry conferences. This role will partner closely with Global Development, Global Product Development; R&D, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, Business Development, and Market Access to shape asset strategies from preclinical through Phase III development.

 

Area of Responsibility:

  • Set the strategy for US market in collaboration with global teams;
  • Serve as the commercial lead on cross-functional development teams for pipeline assets (typically pre-IND through Ph3).
  • Develop recommendations to senior leadership and governance committees on early-stage investment decisions
  • Develop and refine Target Product Profiles (TPPs) in collaboration with R&D and Medical teams to ensure alignment with future market needs.
  • Lead indication prioritization, market segmentation, and asset positioning strategies based on market research, competitive intelligence, and unmet need analysis.
  • Conduct market opportunity assessments, including epidemiology modeling, forecasting, and scenario planning to inform pipeline investment and lifecycle planning.
  • Serve as commercial lead for business development, diligence and US market evaluations for in-licensing, pipeline development and M&A opportunities
  • Translate clinical development strategies into early commercial strategies, including differentiation, access considerations, and value proposition framing.
  • Collaborate with Global and Regional Market Access to shape early pricing and reimbursement strategies.
  • Lead external vendor management for market access, forecasting, and analytics support for new and lifecycle products.
  • Present recommendations to senior leadership and governance committees on development-stage investment decisions.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, PhD, PharmD) strongly preferred.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in biopharmaceuticals, including new product planning, marketing, management consulting, or strategic planning.
  • Experience leading early development programs (preclinical–Ph2) required; Ph3 or launch experience a plus.
  • Experience in Dermatology, Oncology, Immunology preferred

  • The ideal candidate will combine deep market knowledge, analytical rigor, and strategic foresight to assess the clinical and commercial viability of assets and support investment decisions that maximize portfolio value.
  • Strong business acumen and experience conducting market assessments, forecasting, or opportunity valuation.
  • Exceptional cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, especially with R&D, Medical, and Market Access stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity, drive alignment, and synthesize complex information into clear strategic recommendations.
