Job Description:

Sun Pharmaceuticals, one renowned global specialty generic pharmaceutical manufacturer, is looking for a dynamic, experienced, and motivated professional to lead the various components of scientific publications within medical affairs, helping drive the success of the diverse medical affairs programs.

The incumbent is responsible for leading the strategic development and management of Sun Pharma scientific publication plans. This role will lead collaborative, multi-disciplinary work with internal and external key stakeholders on publications activities related to assigned compounds.  The Director, Scientific Publications will ensure accurate and timely delivery of communications, actively resolving any challenges and providing solutions to critical issues in accordance with ethical publication practices. This individual will be detail oriented, ensuring that all publication plans run in an effective and efficient manner.

The Director, Scientific Publications will report to the Associate Vice President and Head of Scientific Communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the process of Scientific Publications: Provide day-to-day project management for scientific publications (eg, manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and oral presentations) and other scientific communications as assigned across Sun Pharma pipeline and branded assets.
  2. Lead on internal collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional partners and vendors to manage and execute the strategic scientific publication plans, including development of publication strategies and delivery of plans.
  3. Lead on external collaboration: Foster collaborative relationships with authors, researchers, publishers, and other relevant stakeholder groups such as corporate collaborators.
  4. Lead on planning: Guide and facilitate cross-functional publication planning and scientific communications meetings (eg, Publications Planning Team), publication steering committees, and publication process.
  5. Lead through fiscal responsibility: Oversee publications budgets to ensure that projects are within the pre-specified budgets.  Develops and reports on the status of different projects, budgets and resource utilization, via creation and dissemination of reports on the various projects.
  6. Lead in quality and integrity: Ensure that scientific publications are high quality, accurate, and timely, in accordance with GPP2022.  Maintain accurate scientific publications related-documentation in compliance with relevant guidelines (eg, GPP2022, ICMJE) and Sun Pharma policies. Ensure that the Scientific Publications process is fully adherent to all SOPs in alignment with professional and corporate integrity standards.

Qualifications:

  1. Advanced degree in a relevant scientific field (MS, PhD, MD, PharmD, etc.); doctoral degree and CMPP certification preferred
  2. 6+ years of experience in scientific publications in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, or 8+ years of medical communications agency experience in publications. Prior scientific publications experience at the Associate Director level preferred
  3. Strong understanding of publications guidelines (eg, ICMJE, GPP)
  4. Solid understanding and knowledge of relevant therapeutic areas and compounds
  5. Proven ability to think strategically and make decisions even under conditions of ambiguity, evolving landscapes, fast paced, and tight timelines, achieve goals and work independently as a Scientific Publications Lead within a biotech/pharma organization. Attention to detail required.
  6. Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  7. Strong publication planning and strategy capabilities
  8. Excellent overall written and verbal communication skills
  9. Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to approximately 20% of time
  10. Excellent leadership skills with a proven record of accomplishment in managing high-performing cross-functional teams and external partners, including medical writers and agencies
  11. Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to a variety of audiences
  12. Display a demonstrated ability to think strategically and implement strategies across a broad portfolio, bringing projects to completion that set Sun Pharma apart as a corporate leader in the industry
