Job purpose

 

The Senior Manager, Compounding is responsible for overseeing all compounding operations, in addition to people management and process development to achieve business goals and expectations. The incumbent will lead a team to achieve operational excellence through coaching and mentoring, driving employee engagement and team work, including working in collaboration with other area leaders to implement performance improvement projects/initiatives to drive change and apply lean and continuous improvement principles

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Ensure all compounding activities are completed effectively and in compliance with Company specifications.
  • Apply analytical approach to data interpretation for continuous improvement, trouble-shooting and problem-solving initiatives.
  • Transform innovative ideas into immediate action consistent with cGMPs and regulatory filings.
  • Assist Senior Director, Production in participating and managing various projects relating to improving business performance (OEE, cycle time, cost, quality, customer service etc.)
  • Manage assigned projects through effective planning and design, organization and execution of continuous improvement strategies from conceptual stage through to implementation.
  • Effectively liaise and collaborate with business leaders and teams across the business to achieve alignment and commitment necessary to drive performance.  Provide hands on involvement with technical transfer and validation efforts to ensure product design is adequately incorporated into the commercial scale processes.
  • Provide effective leadership to supervisors and all staff within the compounding department.
  • Participate in and lead write-up of Non-Conformance Investigations and ensure Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA’s) are completed.
  • Maintain a result focused approach to ensure quality product is delivered against pre-established schedule.
  • Ensure staff is trained on specific and general procedures pertaining to cGMPs and job functions.
  • Ensure all personnel operate within a safe work environment.
  • Oversee compounding documentation to ensure accuracy is maintained and that it meets SPCI’s requirements and is consistent with good documentation practices. This includes but not limited to batch records, packaging work orders, log records, inventory transactions and shop floor data collection.
  • Develop staff to achieve their full potential, through mentoring, teaching, coaching and managing roles. Provide appropriate feedback throughout the year in addition to completing performance reviews.
  • Ensure the completion of tasks by delegating responsibility and expected actions to supervisors.
  • Optimize labor utilization and productivity output to meet the goals of the department.
  • Manage department overtime to ensure adherance to budget
  • Oversee the inventory supply e.g. glove, hairnets, wipes, tygon hose, seals, gaskets to ensure adequate quantity is available at all times.
  • Ensure supervisors are performing payroll functions such as E-Time management for hours worked, vacation days and incident days correctly and coach them on identifying trends of poor compliance and corrective action plans.
  • Complete all GMP Documentation correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Complete all training assignments and maintain personal training records.
  • Lead department’s Non-Conformance Investigations.
  • Initiate and follow through with actions required to close Change Controls.
  • Participate in Internal, Customer and Regulatory Audits.
  • Assist Senior Director, Production with department budgeting activities.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Additional responsibility (Only applicable to customer facing roles)

 

Report any adverse event received from customers for company products to the pharmacovigilance department / Drug Safety on the same day or within 1 business day

 

Qualifications

 

  • B. Sc. (Chemistry or Chemical Engineering) or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ progressive experience managing compounding operations.
  • Extensive understanding of process parameters and the impact on critical quality attributes for validation and manufacturing activities.
  • Systematic problem-solving capabilities using appropriate process improvement methodologies to analyze complex data/information from cross-functional teams.
  • Superior leadership and communication to build strong commitment within a team, including ability to influence change in a positive way.
  • Excellent technical report writing skills
  • Strong project management skills and methodologies, including prior experience in leading continuous improvement projects.
  • Solid mathematical skills in order to perform numerous calculations when completing documents.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of GMPs and SOPs. Computer literate, preferably with Microsoft software i.e.: Excel, Word and Access.
  • Advanced investigation abilities. Able to analyze for “root cause”.
  • Ability to work in a high paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of MRP program.
  • Flexibility to rotate all shifts (when requested).

 

 Working conditions

 

  • The Packaging / Compounding areas are air-conditioned. As this is a Pharmaceutical operation, it’s necessary to wear specialized garments, such as hairnets, beard covers and shoe covers (where applicable).
  • Expect to be “on call “after hours to address issues requiring immediate resolution.

This posting is for an existing vacancy.

The presently-anticipated base compensation pay range for this position is $111,000 to $136,000. Actual base compensation may vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to geographical location and experience. In addition, this position is part of the Annual Performance Bonus Plan. Employees are eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs which include medical, dental and vision coverage; life insurance; RRSP savings plan; and the employee assistance program. Employees also receive various paid time off benefits, including vacation time and sick time.
