Title: Medical Science Liaison, Dermatology - Quebec
Job purpose
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is responsible for providing a variety of external and internal customers with medical and scientific information on the appropriate utilization of Sun Pharma dermatology products with more general information about their therapeutic area and disease state. This field-based position will proactively build healthcare provider support, by using a scientific approach that is aligned with the Brand Team objectives and therapeutic area Medical Plan. The MSL will need to be a credible and valued representative of Sun Pharma leading in a variety of interactions, which include face to face and Peer to Peer (examples: ad boards, CME, etc.) with key stakeholders across their regions. The MSLs will engage with HCPs, NPs, & local Regional Dermatology groups. They will be trained to respond to complex inquiries in a scientific, fair-balanced, compliant manner serving as a critical field medical resource to these HCPs and also, internal SUN sales and market access constituents.
Duties and responsibilities
The role will support a territory that includes: 50 KOLs Distributed across QC Province.
- Interact with healthcare providers and grow relationships with thought leaders to communicate and advance the scientific platform as aligned with SUN’s corporate goals and objectives.
- As these relationships develop, some HCPs will be recognized as being potential advocates for the use of our products, possible speakers or possible investigators in clinical trials. The MSL will develop strategies to develop selected HCPs as Key Opinion Leaders depending on their specific interests, enthusiasm for, or experience with our products.
- Communicate complex scientific information, provide services if appropriate like slides, scientific literature acquisition, and or PSP service offerings, and research concepts to HCPs
- With a field-based position, territory planning is a key activity. This will be done in collaboration with the Medical Advisor along with the commercial team and will involve identifying a focus of effort and the metrics for customer calls. The plan will have to be dynamic with respect to the specific brand, territory and the life cycle of the product line. That is, the focus of effort may vary from time to time and the territory plan will have to be flexible to accommodate for this.
- As part of this plan, together with Marketing, the National CME Provider, and with input from the Sales Representatives, develop a regional Peer to Peer Engagement plan, and jointly execute in a timely manner on budget as a team
- The MSL will play a critical role in internal training and communication with the Medical, Brand Team and territory managers. Knowledge sharing, including opinion leader and site profiling, and education both internally and externally will be a key area of responsibility.
- Provide clinical and economic value information to thought leaders, payers and formulary decision makers when call upon by access or aligned to the brand plan
- Identify and train members of SUN’s speakers’ bureau and ensure they are updated on new data
- Respond to requests for investigator sponsored research (ISS) proposals and transit them into Sun and present the research to Sun for review. They will become the point of contact with the HCPs if ISS research is accepted and funded by Sun
- Support SUN sponsored research
- Provide feedback based on field interactions with healthcare providers and Thought Leaders to SUN stakeholders
- Respond to scientific inquires consistent with the MSL compliance standards,
- Foster scientific relationships between SUN and Fellows in training
- Lead and/or participate on committees or project teams that support MSL strategies and tactics as delegated by MSL leadership
- Seek out opportunities to support the MSL value proposition, achieve results and set an example for others to follow by consistently demonstrating SUN values and leadership attributes
- Must have the ability to gain customer feedback, uncover business opportunities for SUN and pair customer's unmet needs with available internal resources.
- Must be a strong team player who can effectively interface with SUN clinical and commercial personnel, as well as aide in training of SUN staff.
- Demonstrate tact and professionalism when communicating and interacting with others
- Comply with all applicable SUN Health Care Compliance SOPs and US regulations
Qualifications
- Medical Doctorate (MD), PhD or PharmD preferred.
- Minimum Master’s degree and/or Health care professional background will be considered.
- Immunology and/or dermatology background
- Minimum of 1 year of field medical experience a must
- Proven ability to develop and foster peer-to-peer relationship with stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and work effectively with minimal supervision in a constantly changing environment.
- Thorough knowledge of the healthcare system, disease management and medical research.
- Pharmaceutical business and market knowledge and experience considered an asset
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, team, written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent teaching skills and ability to present and discuss scientific material clearly and concisely.
- Strong presentation and education skills; ability to communicate clinical and non-clinical technical information effectively
- Demonstrated project management ability
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications
Working conditions
- Travel up to 60-70%.
