Job purpose

The Medical Advisor will be responsible for the implementation of the medical strategy and ensure up-to-date scientific knowledge within the medical affairs team. The medical advisor will act as the therapeutic expert within the team and provide scientific communication of Sun Pharma clinical data across multiple therapeutic areas including dermatology, ophthalmic, immunology and oncology. This includes but not limited to coordination and oversight of medical and scientific material for both internal and external engagement use, providing medical insights that will be used to support cross-functional teams. Expertise will be utilized for tasks such as medical review of promotional and non-promotional materials, preparing/supervising responses to Medical Information requests, authoring relevant scientific communications, and providing internal training. Additionally, the Medical Advisor may be expected to conduct field activity including KOL engagement, provide Sun Pharma presence in national and regional congresses and provide support to the medical science liaisons. The Medical Advisor is expected to foster strong relationships with KOLs within the therapeutic areas mentioned.

 

Duties and responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to engage KOLs in both in-person and virtually across Canada and support field medical science liaisons.

  • The Medical Advisor will be responsible for providing medical expertise and guidance for the activities of the Canadian Medical Affairs team under the direction of the Associate Director of Medical Affairs.
  • Create/amend slide kit content supporting strategy for KOLs reactively, and MSLs proactively
  • Implementation of the Canadian Medical Affairs plan, provides therapeutic guidance and alignment for the MSL team and assist in development of territory plans, providing scientific support for both marketed and pipeline products.
  • The position will provide leadership and guidance on Canadian-based medical activities including but not limited to oversight of medical information, product defense and communications, advisory boards/consultancy meetings, scientific exchange, medical learning program development, and review and selection of educational and scientific/clinical grants. The position will be a key partner to cross-functions.
  • Interact with healthcare providers and grow relationships with thought leaders to communicate and advance the scientific platform as aligned with SUN’s corporate goals and objectives.
  • Communicate complex scientific information, provide services if appropriate like slides, scientific literature acquisition, and or PSP service offerings, and research concepts to HCPs
  • Develop a regional peer-to-peer engagement plan together with cross-functional partners, and jointly execute in a timely manner on budget as a team
  • Support CMEs generated by sales: KOL speaker selection, agenda development, scientific slides
  • The Medical Advisor will play a critical role in internal training and communication with the Medical, Brand Team and territory managers. Knowledge sharing, including opinion leader and site profiling, and education both internally and externally will be a key area of responsibility.
  • Create/amend training slides on the disease state and the product supporting the strategy – for territory managers and MSLs
  • Provide clinical and economic value information to thought leaders, payers and formulary decision makers when call upon by access or aligned to the brand plan
  • Laisse with key publication vendors; support the generation of Canadian articles and Canadian publications
  • Identify and train members of SUN’s speakers’ bureau and ensure they are updated on new data
  • Respond to requests for investigator-initiated trials (IIT) proposals and escalate relevant projects to Global for review. They will become the point of contact with the HCPs if ISS research is accepted and funded by Sun
  • Support SUN sponsored research
  • Provide feedback based on field interactions with healthcare providers and Thought Leaders to SUN stakeholders
  • Respond to scientific inquires consistent with the MSL compliance standards
  • Foster scientific relationships between SUN and Fellows in training
  • Lead and/or participate on committees or project teams that support MSL strategies and tactics as delegated by MSL leadership
  • Seek out opportunities to support the MSL value proposition, achieve results and set an example for others to follow by consistently demonstrating SUN values and leadership attributes
  • Must have the ability to gain customer feedback, uncover business opportunities for SUN and pair customer's unmet needs with available internal resources.
  • Must be a strong team player who can effectively interface with SUN clinical and commercial personnel, as well as aide in training of SUN staff.
  • Demonstrate tact and professionalism when communicating and interacting with others
  • Comply with all applicable SUN Health Care Compliance SOPs and US regulations

 

Qualifications

  • Medical Doctorate (MD)
  • Therapeutic area and/or related background preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of medical affairs experience
  • Proven ability to develop and foster peer-to-peer relationship with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and work effectively with minimal supervision in a constantly changing environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of the healthcare system, disease management and medical research.
  • Pharmaceutical business and market knowledge and experience considered an asset · Strong interpersonal, organizational, team, written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent teaching skills and ability to present and discuss scientific material clearly and concisely.
  • Strong presentation and education skills; ability to communicate clinical and non-clinical technical information effectively
  • Demonstrated project management ability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Proficient in French preferred but not required.
