The goal of the Environment, Health & Safety Coordinator (EHS Coordinator) is enforce and maintain the framework for a safe work environment.  The EHS Coordinator will review, evaluate, and analyze the workplace and ensure supporting systems and inventory is in place to control, eliminate, and prevent illness or injury to employees.

Reporting to the Environment, Health & Safety Senior Manager – 2, the EHS Coordinator will act as a subject matter expert in workplace safety.  Keeping abreast of regulatory and corporate standards within these areas, the EHS Coordinator will put forward effective means for ensuring compliance and health and safety performance.  This role will require supporting the site Departments in terms of occupational health and safety by acting as an advisor and as a contributor. The EHS Coordinator will also support production, warehousing and lab functions by ensuring adequate supplies of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are maintained and distributed to staff as required and maintaining records related to EHS compliance.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for the development and promotion of a health and safety culture.
  • Play an advisory role acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to the employees and managers for occupational health and safety matters specifically as they relate to activities at Building 114.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs of warehouse and production areas to identify unsafe conditions (e.g., blocked exits, improper stacking, machine guarding issues).
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incident reports and training logs.
  • Support risk assessments and recommend corrective actions.
  • Create or update communication materials including monthly toolbox talks.
  • Assist in the coordination and delivery of EHS training programs for employees.
  • Respond to minor incidents and near-misses; assist in documenting and investigating root causes.
  • Participate in emergency drills and support evacuation planning.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of EHS programs and assist with updating/revising policies and programs as required.
  • Attend and participate in the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Gather and maintain data required for annual environmental and safety reporting
  • Maintain adequate inventory of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and distribute to workers as necessary
  • Raise purchase requisitions for the procurement of EHS supplies, equipment and services as required.
  • Manage EHS databases such as SDS management system, EHS Global Portal, Updapt and conduct monthly data entry to support corporate reporting requirements
  • Update and maintain safety boards
  • Participate in internal and external audits, including SunPharma Canada Customer audits.

 

Additional responsibility (Only applicable to customer facing roles)

 

Report any adverse event received from customers for company products to the pharmacovigilance department / Drug Safety on the same day or within 1 business day.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of relevant health & safety experience within an industrial environment and laboratory setting.
  • Minimum post-secondary education (Diploma or Degree) combined with a certification in Occupational Safety and Health.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in occupational hygiene, industrial safety, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations.
  • Familiarity with Pre-Start Health & Safety Reviews, and contractor safety an asset.
  • Knowledge of applicable OHS laws, regulations and standards in production and laboratory environments.
  • Ability to provide training workers with a good command of public speaking.
  • A self-starter with the ability to manage priorities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a high consideration to detail.
  • Promote, establish and maintain a good team spirit.
  • Hazard assessment skills (performing risk analysis and implementation of controls).
  • Good knowledge of cGMP manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent computer skills and using various programs including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Presenter.
  • Problem Solving:
    • Safety and occupational health problem solving experience is necessary. The work typically requires interpretation of a variety of occupational circumstances to adapt known control or protective measures to eliminate or minimize hazardous situations.
    • Work assignments require the identification of elements contributing to human and machine failure which may lead to injury or property damage.

 

Working conditions

 

  • Working conditions will vary.  The HSE Coordinator will be required to work in all areas of the Canadian operations of Sun Pharma Canada.

The presently-anticipated base compensation pay range for this position is $62,000 to $77,500. Actual base compensation may vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to geographical location and experience. In addition, this position is part of the Annual Performance Bonus Plan. Employees are eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs which include medical, dental and vision coverage; life insurance; RRSP savings plan; and the employee assistance program. Employees also receive various paid time off benefits, including vacation time and sick time.
