Our Brampton location is presently looking for Engineer, Packaging

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for management of packaging equipment capital projects and to provide technical support for day to day packaging operations. The Packaging Engineer is expected to lead internal personnel, contractors, OEM technicians, and project teams.

Duties and responsibilities

List the primary job duties and responsibilities

  • Provide packaging equipment design and maintenance expertise
  • Provide technical support to the Operation and Maintenance teams for troubleshooting, machine fine tuning etc., and lead major machine repair as required
  • Ensure the safe and efficient setup and operation of packaging equipment
  • Develop and manage budgets and schedules while handling multiple projects & assignments
  • Plan, design, justify, and manage technical packaging capital projects
  • Author  URS, FRS, FAT, & Commissioning documents
  • Prepare capital investment requests and participate in bid and scope reviews
  • Lead/participate in equipment selection, testing, installation, commissioning, qualification, and ongoing technical support if needed
  • Ensure all applicable Provincial laws, technical and engineering standards are applied to all engineering work completed, while also adhering to the Professional Engineer code of ethics
  • Review & assist as required with the execution of all relative validation documents
  • Develop material/equipment specifications including the use of lab testing equipment to validate and confirm results.
  • Develop and run material/equipment trials in order to test packaging for suitability and performance under various conditions
  • Work with material and artwork vendors to develop new packaging as required
  • Follow safety rules/regulations and report any workplace injuries or accidents
  • Complete all GMP Documentation correctly and in a timely manner
  • Complete all training assignments and maintain personal training records
  • Participate in and/or lead Non Conformance Investigations
  • Complete Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA’s)
  • Initiate, and follow through with actions required to close Change Controls
  • Participate in Internal, Customer and Regulatory Audits
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

State the minimum qualifications required to successfully perform the job.

  • Solid understanding of employee safety requirements/standards and their practical application
  • Strong knowledgeable about cGMP standards
  • Previous Pharmaceutical experience required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required in order to communicate and work effectively in a team-based environment
  • High level of analytical and problem solving ability is required, specifically in cases where problems are unusual and challenging
  • Proficiency in computer applications including MS Excel and AutoCad
  • Hands-on knowledge of Packaging Systems for Semi-solid and Liquid Pharmaceutical Products including: Fillers, Cartoners, Leaflet Inserters, Labelers, Coders, Checkweighers, Bundlers, Case Packers, Serialization/Aggregation etc.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of packaging materials and specifications, and component design
  • Strong troubleshooting and mentoring skills

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum Ten (10) years of relevant engineering experience in the Pharmaceutical industry. 
  • Professional Engineer certification is required.
  • Computer skills (MS Office, MS Project, AutoCAD, Lotus Notes)
  • Previous project management experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability with troubleshooting equipment and packaging materials/components
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking ability in order to accommodate changes in priorities, schedule conflicts and / or project delays.
  • Ability to understand and interpret equipment specifications and equipment drawings
  • Working knowledge of PLC logics and troubleshooting with AB, Siemens, Elau etc

Working conditions

  • Must be able to perform and review work in a manufacturing plant environment.
  • This includes ascending/descending ladders and stairs and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Duties may involve internal/external work in various climate/weather conditions associated with a manufacturing plant at any time.
  • Expected to respond to plant emergencies when required
  • After hours and weekend work as required
  • Travel as required
