Title: Apprentice, Plant Maintenance
Job purpose
The Apprentice, Plant Maintenance provides technical support by troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, setting-up, performing machine adjustments of production equipment pertaining to the production of Sun Pharma drug products. The focus will be in all areas of Packaging and Compounding as outlined by business needs
Reporting to the Manager, Production Maintenance and Continuous Improvement, this role, under the guidance of experienced journeyperson millwrights is to provide quality troubleshooting, maintenance, overhaul & repairs, installation and modifications for the stationary machinery and mechanical equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
Duties and responsibilities
Preventative maintenance and troubleshooting:
- Conduct routine inspections and lubrication of equipment to prevent breakdowns.
- Assist in diagnosing mechanical issues, including misalignment, and wear detection.
- Support the development and execution of preventive maintenance schedules.
Equipment installation and maintenance:
- Assist in the installation, alignment, and setup of mechanical packaging and compounding equipment.
- Support the disassembly, inspection, and reassembly of components for maintenance and repair.
- Learn to use precision measurement tools to ensure proper equipment alignment and functionality.
- Assist in documenting maintenance work, repairs, and inspections in maintenance.
- Complete GMP documentation right first time in batch records and other relevant GMP documents
Safety and compliance:
- Follow all site safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), personal protective equipment (PPE) use, and hazard identification.
- Participate in safety meetings and adhere to company policies and regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure proper handling and storage of tools and equipment.
Learning & development:
- Must enroll with the Skilled Trades Ontario as an Apprentice, and work towards a 433A Millwright License
- Participate in structured on-the-job training and technical coursework required for apprenticeship progression and work towards completing the required hours and training for millwright certification.
- Must fulfil all areas delineated by the competency guidebook provided by the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities.
- Attend day / block release schooling over a span of several years in order to achieve all academic requirements to write certification exam within allotted timeframe.
- Actively participate in mentorship and training opportunities provided by senior millwrights.
- Stay up to date with industry best practices and new technologies.
Additional responsibility (Only applicable to customer facing roles)
Report any adverse event received from customers for company products to the pharmacovigilance department / Drug Safety on the same day or within 1 business day
Qualifications
- Grade 12 - High School
- Mechanical aptitude
- Completion of a related college level course is an asset
- Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing and/or industrial setting is an asset
Working conditions
- The flexibility to work rotating / 12 hour continental / weekday / weekend shifts.
- Overtime may be required based on business needs. This may be additional time during the workday and weekend work with short notice. Must have flexibility to work a minimum of two weekends per month, at the discretion of business requirements.
- GMP garments and safety PPEs must be worn within the manufacturing environment as directed.
Physical requirements
- At times a requirement to work in “confined spaces” to fix problems.
- A requirement to be sitting, standing, bending, squatting and walking throughout the day.
